Born and raised in Italy, Alessio Piras holds a Ph.D. in Spanish Literature from the University of Pisa. After living and working eight years as administrative assistant in Barcelona, Spain, he decided to return to research and teaching. He is now a Teaching Assistant and Ph.D. candidate in Hispanic Literature at the UNM. His research interests are Spanish Cultural Studies, Spanish Civil War Exile, Urban and Border Studies. At SpanPort he teaches Advanced Spanish courses focusing on Literature and Cinema from Spain and Latin America. In Italy, he published crime fiction novels and short stories.
