Spanish and Portuguese Review (SPR) is excited to announce we are hosting a virtual graduate student photo contest at the 105th American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) Annual Conference!
The contest will happen entirely virtually on our newly launched Instagram! Follow us at @aatsp_spr.
We encourage all graduate student AATSP members at the conference to participate in the contest.

How to participate in the Photo Contest?
- Follow SPR on Instagram!
- While at the 105th Annual AATSP Conference in Salamanca, Spain post one of your favorite photos to your Instagram. Make sure to a) include a caption, and b) tag us @aatsp_spr, tag @aatspglobal, and use the two hashtags #AATSP2023 and #SPRphotocontest (*please see rules below about days the photo contest is open).
Who can participate in the photo context?
- The contest is only open to graduate student members of AATSP who are attending the 105th conference in Salamanca, Spain in person.
What to include in your post:
- Your picture should be a snapshot of something meaningful for you at the conference. It can be fun, serious, studious, academic, historic, playful, adventurous, etc.- it’s up to you! The location can be engaging in conference events or simply you exploring Salamanca and finding all the amazing historical, architectural, gastronomical, or cultural gems that the city has to offer. Your photo can include you, other people, or be a photo with no people, highlighting another aspect of the conference or city. In your caption we encourage you to share a few details about what the photo is of and why you chose to post it.
What you should not include in your post:
- Not your photo nor your caption/post should include any derogatory, racist, prejudice, sexist or offensive language or content of any kind. Any content which includes language of this manner or may be construed as such will not be considered in the contest and you will be contacted to immediately remove SPR and AATSP from the post. Thank you for making this contest and experience a safe and inclusive space for all!
When will the photo contest take place?
- The photo contest will be open from Sunday, June 25th at 12:00am through Saturday, July 1st at 11:59pm. All times are in Central European Summer Time (CEST). No submissions after Saturday, July 1st at 11:59pm will be considered.
Other fine print:
- The photo contest is only hosted on Instagram. Entrees will not be accepted unless via Instagram. For example, entrees will not be considered on other platforms such as but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, or email.
- All photos must be original and taken by the entrants. Submitted entries may not be controlled by any third party.
- Photos may be edited to enhance color or resolution. Please do not edit the photo so much that the main elements are not recognizable. The goal is to highlight experiences in Salamanca, not necessarily fancy photo editing.
- Photos must not infringe upon any trademarks, copyrights, moral rights, intellectual rights, or rights of privacy of any entity or person.
- By entering the contest, entrants agree that the photos they submit can be used by Spanish and Portuguese Review (SPR) for advertising or sharing purposes.
- Persons who violate the above rules will be not be considered for the contest, and any photos submitted will not be considered valid.
How are winners selected?
- Winners will be decided in three categories:
- 1) Likes (likes on official contest photos will be tallied after the contest closes, July 1st at 11:59pm CEST).
- 2) Comments (comments on official contest photos will be tallied after the contest closes, July 1st at 11:59pm CEST).
- 3) SPR Managing Editor team will vote on their favorite.
- All decisions are final. SPR reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not confirm to stated contest rules.
- Winners will be announced early to mid July 2023.
- Winners will be contacted via Instagram.
What do you win?
- Winners will receive a) SPR swag, and b) a chance to be highlighted in an SPR blog post!
- Prizes are not transferable.
